If you’ve spent any time on the internet looking at pictures of LEGO, or reading about LEGO, I’m sure you’ve stumbled across several acronyms including AFOL.
What is an AFOL?
An AFOL is simply an Adult Fan of LEGO. While the definition is straight forward, its pronunciation is less clear. Personally, I pronounce it “ay fall”. That’s “ay” like way without the “w”. I’ve heard it pronounced “hay-foal” before. And I’ve heard it pronounced “awful”. Neither of those pronunciations sounds good to me. It would be nice to get the LEGO community to settle on an official pronunciation, but that seems unlikely. Until then…
How do you pronounce AFOL?
I am an Adult Fan of LEGO (AFOL) and an active member of the Michigan LEGO User Group (MichLUG). I have loved LEGO for as long as I can remember. I am currently working on the following models:
– UCS Millenium Falcon
– Emmett’s Apartment Building
– Gringott’s Bank
I pronounce it the way you do too. I love the graphic. Can i use it to post on by blog?
I am embarrassed to say, I did not make the graphic. I happened across it when I started writing this article, and just used it myself. So, feel free!
Each country will pronunciate it in a different wway…
For example, here at Spain we say a simple ” AFOL”, with the same a sound as car. I hope my explanation was enough to understand it. :/
