I remember years ago, my boss at an old job told me “…and price is no object!” I looked into what he wanted, and gave him the quote for whatever we were working on at the time, and he flipped out at the numbers he saw. “I thought cost wasn’t a concern”, I said. He replied with a smile, “Cost is always a concern.”
I will always remember that conversation.
Cost does matter. In everything. Cost certainly affects my Lego buying habits. For example, I won’t even consider buying a set if the price-to-piece ratio isn’t $.10 or better. This translates to a $19.99 set needing at least 200 pieces for me to buy it. Whether it has been the Lego Group’s aim to hit this price point or not, it’s been a good metric for years. Sets with pieces costing less than a dime on average? Good value. More than a dime a piece? Too expensive.
What are your thoughts on the price of Lego? Are you motivated to purchase based on price? Or do you base your decision simply on what you like?
I am an Adult Fan of LEGO (AFOL) and an active member of the Michigan LEGO User Group (MichLUG). I have loved LEGO for as long as I can remember. I am currently working on the following models:
– UCS Millenium Falcon
– Emmett’s Apartment Building
– Gringott’s Bank
Oops! I meant to write this comment elsewhere, I think it was for the breakdancing pic with R2. If I really like a set, I will get it regardless of price. Although I’ve never bought a set over $50, I think. My husband, though, looks at the price per piece, and won’t buy if it’s a lot for the pieces in it.
Too funny! Wish you had a WordPress blog because they have a “like” button, I want to “like” all your pictures 🙂
I do have a WordPress blog. 🙂 I do need to find plugins that let people A) like my pictures and B) easily share them.
I’m open to suggestions!
