I recently got my hands on a copy of the LEGO Amazing Vehicles book. The official title is The LEGO Build-It Book Amazing Vehicles. True to its title, it is amazing.
This is a very cool book, and for mpre than just the LEGO Amazing Vehicles. There are several pages of building basics and advanced building techniques. The authors skillfully show you that 1×1 round bricks and 1×1 round plates can be virtually anything; tailpipes, shocks, springs, mirrors, seats, etc. You just have to use your imagination!
In addition to basics, they keep exploring the Magic Formula; the width of 2 studs is exactly the same as the height of 5 plates. This opens up a world of SNOT building possibilities!

Another amazing thing about this book? Every model can be built from Creator set 5867, the Super Speedster. How cool is that?My only disappointment is that the vehicles are not minifigure scale, and that is what I build. 🙁 Still, I will use what I learned from these guys, and apply it to my minifig vehicles!

What You Need
Every project in this book uses a common set of pieces—a complete list is included in the book. If you have set #5867, the LEGO CREATOR Super Speedster, you have all the bricks you need.
If you have a collection of other LEGO sets and want to determine which pieces you’re missing from set #5867, we recommend using Rebrickable (http://rebrickable.com/). To buy the parts you’re missing, you have a few options.
If you’re not lucky enough to live near an official LEGO retail store with a “Pick a Brick” wall, you can buy individual pieces online (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Pick-A-Brick-ByTheme). You can also buy LEGO pieces from BrickLink (http://www.bricklink.com/), a comprehensive, international marketplace for buying new and used bricks.
Don’t forget that you can use parts in different colors or with similar shapes, too. That’s what’s so cool about building with LEGO bricks! You can always redesign and customize everything using your own imagination.
