A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled across another LEGO Helm’s Deep project. What struck me about this particular MOC was the way the wall was done. THis is the first time I saw this particular LEGO castle wall technique, and I think it works really well.
A new LEGO castle wall technique
Created by Altezza RS, this LEGO castle wall technique is very effective. It uses a bunch of 2×4 tiles mounted vertically. It gives the impression of enormous stone blocks being used to build the LEGO castle wall.
Another cool feature of this LEGO castle wall building technique is its ability to bend; forming curved walls.
And it’s a surprisingly simple build; just a series of offset 1×2 bricks and plates. Even though it looks like LEGO bricks touch when placed next to each other, there are actually tiny gaps between then. Applying force along a long section of bricks allows them to flex. Because of the overlapping construction, the 1×2 blocks pivot ever so slightly, allowing for a graceful curve. The bricks are technic bricks coupled with the technic stud pins, allowing for the tiles to be attached vertically.
This is brilliant to me. So simple and straight forward, yet allowing for smooth shapes and a sense of immense size.
What other clever LEGO castle wall techniques have you seen? Or used yourself?
I am an Adult Fan of LEGO (AFOL) and an active member of the Michigan LEGO User Group (MichLUG). I have loved LEGO for as long as I can remember. I am currently working on the following models:
– UCS Millenium Falcon
– Emmett’s Apartment Building
– Gringott’s Bank
