Earlier this week, The Brick Show posted a video about how Toys R Us BOGO sale might not be a deal after all.
While this was information I’ve known for a while, but it got me thinking about the LEGO economics knowledge I have learned over the years. My own LEGO economics philosophies influence every LEGO purchase I make. I think I’ll do a series on this as soon as football season is over for my kids, and I have some free time back!
What are some of your LEGO economics theories?
I am an Adult Fan of LEGO (AFOL) and an active member of the Michigan LEGO User Group (MichLUG). I have loved LEGO for as long as I can remember. I am currently working on the following models:
– UCS Millenium Falcon
– Emmett’s Apartment Building
– Gringott’s Bank
I just try to stick to minifigs right now, that saves me some money… 😉
That would certainly keep costs down. And storage requirements.
hahaha! i like where near the end he said “I WANT IT NOW!” That has been me in the past. Recently, I learned just to wait. I do pretty much what he says and buy when there is double points and a sale, like the 1 year anniversary of the San Diego Store. I also purchase the sets I want when there is a special promo, like the free Hulk. I bought $50 to get him and will sell him in the future. Right now I believe he is worth around $25. That’s a great deal, spending $50 to get a minifig that will probably be worth that same amount in the future. This works for me though, since I have a Lego store nearby. I’d rather not buy from Lego.com to avoid shipping fees.
Still kicking myself for missing out on that Hulk! I can’t remember the last time I paid full retail for LEGO.
If you’re patient, you can get free shipping from lego.com a few times a year. With the price of gas these days, that’s a consideration.
Yeah, that’s so true! the gas right now in Southern California is about $4.50.
Sorry you missed the Hulk deal. I have to keep on reminding myself how much it’ll be worth so I don’t open it for myself.
I forgot to add to my Lego economics that when I attend the monthly model builds in the beginning of each month, I get the calendar for the following month. If they have a better deal than the current month, I just wait to purchase the next month. Also since I have small children and all my friends all have kids, we go to birthday parties at least once or twice a month, we always buy them gifts from the Lego store for extra VIP points for Lego for me!
looking forward to reading about your Lego economics. Reading about how to get the most for my money when buying Lego gets me all excited!
Yikes. Gas has dropped to around $3.60 in Michigan recently. I drive a full sized pickup, and it eats that gas. getting more and more conscious of the added expense.
I like the gift purchase idea. I might need to start doing that. What kid isn’t thrilled with getting LEGO?
