So it sounds like we’ll be getting a new theme next year; Lego Galaxy Squad. Sounds like it will be a sort of space marines vs. alien insects. Is it just me, or does this sound like the 1997 movie, Starship Troopers?
I am an Adult Fan of LEGO (AFOL) and an active member of the Michigan LEGO User Group (MichLUG). I have loved LEGO for as long as I can remember. I am currently working on the following models:
– UCS Millenium Falcon
– Emmett’s Apartment Building
– Gringott’s Bank
I do like classic space for the retro feel but to be honest, LEGO shouldn’t release another theme like that. Kids want action and battles and in truth, I agree with them. Classic Space will always be my favorite Space Theme but there is more to do with space police.
You’re right about the kids wanting action. But can’t the kids come up with their own stories without the theme setting the scene for them? My classic space guys were always in a conflict of some kind, but I wrote the story. It was my imagination.
When my kids play with LEGO, there is always a protagonist and an antagonist. Because they have a lot of Star Wars figures, I feel they are “stuck” in that storyline. Is the imagination of kids today being limited by packaged rules of play?
See this is why I love the ‘Classic Space’ theme over all other space themes. It was not over good guys versus bad guys or humans versus aliens.
Agreed. It was about exploration and discovery. Going boldly where no man had gone before! There doesn’t always need to be conflict.
