I hope I’m not showing my age here, but who remembers Lugnet? I used to visit Lugent every day, multiple times a day. It used to be the bomb. It used to be THE place for Lego news, showing off Lego MOCs, etc. Now, it’s a desolate wasteland. I just checked moments ago, ant the most recent post was two days ago about the new Horizon Express. This makes me sad. 🙁
So what happened to Lugnet?
I guess the first thing that comes to mind, is it looks exactly as it did 10 years ago. I can’t remember exactly when I stopped visiting religiously, but it looks as though I never left. ( I just checked. My last post there was January 19th, 2005.)
Another thing I remember was the over compartmentalization of everything. There were categories for the smallest niche, and if you didn’t post in the right place, boy did you hear about it. From the admins. From the “usuals”. From everyone. Maybe that was the problem. Over moderation. Need to remember that…
And there was a lot of trolling and flame wars if I remember correctly. Whatever the reason(s), Lugnet seems to be dying a painfully slow death. It’s too bad really. I’m quite sure it gave birth to the Lego hobby I (we) know today.
So what websites that you used to frequent regularly have died off, or are still in the throes of death? What do you think happened to them?
I am an Adult Fan of LEGO (AFOL) and an active member of the Michigan LEGO User Group (MichLUG). I have loved LEGO for as long as I can remember. I am currently working on the following models:
– UCS Millenium Falcon
– Emmett’s Apartment Building
– Gringott’s Bank
