I will never forget the day I first heard the news that we would be getting Star Wars LEGO. Actual, genuine, authentic Star Wars LEGO! I was so excited. I had just recently emerged from my Dark Ages, and customized Star Wars LEGO minifigures are what brought me back. I had hand crafted my own Boba Fett and Darth Vader, and they were pretty good if I do say so my self. I’ll have to look for them, and show you how they turned out. When I heard I would soon be able to get OFFICIAL Star Wars LEGO minifigures, I was ecstatic!
Where were you when you first heard about Star Wars LEGO?
I don’t remember the date, but I think the year was 1998; the year before the first official Star Wars LEGO sets were available. I was staying at a bed & breakfast in Madawaska, Maine for business. The owner had made me Cornflake crusted French toast (it was delicious!) for breakfast, and asked if I minded if she turned on the radio. It was NPR that first broke the news to me. I really wish I could find a link to that broadcast, or at least a transcript of it.
As soon as they were available, I ordered those first five sets:
- 7110 Landspeeder
- 7128 Speeder Bikes
- 7130 Snowspeeder
- 7140 X-Wing Fighter
- 7150 TIE Fighter vs. Y-Wing
As soon as I got them, I built them, and I never looked back!
So when did you first year the news? Where were you? What were you doing? I’d love to hear other people’s stories!
